The curated first floors are a central component of the Haus der Statistik. Around 3,000 m² of vibrant spaces for culture, education, meetings and neighborhood use are being created here. Curated means: needs are identified, uses are coordinated – so that the first floor forms the social backbone of the district. Completion: 2025-2031.
The curated first floors form an important building block in the planning and social approach of the Haus der Statistik model project. The idea behind it is simple – and effective: lively, mixed first floor zones that offer space for different needs and usage groups not only strengthen the district itself, but also the adjacent neighborhoods.
Instead of anonymous store use or vacancies, around 3,000 m² of gross floor area will be used for cultural, educational, social infrastructure, neighborhood and meeting space. The first floors are deliberately curated – in other words, the needs that exist, which uses fit together well and how they can develop in a complementary and inclusive way are actively managed.
ZUsammenKUNFT Berlin eG will take over the development as part of its sponsorship until AndersMachen eG later takes over the coordination and operational organization of the first floor zones. Some of the spaces are being created by renovating existing buildings, while others are being built from scratch and are being realized through user-oriented co-design and self-construction.
Over several construction phases (completion 2025-2031), publicly accessible spaces will be created that are not only diverse on paper, but can actually be used by many people – regardless of origin, income or institutional affiliation.
