House B + C

From 2025, new administrative uses will move into the Haus der Statistik: The Mitte-Tiergarten tax office will move into the areas in building sections B and C.

In addition to its cultural and social uses, the Haus der Statistik will also become a modern location for public administration.

The building structure was thoroughly modernized for this purpose:

  • The facades and windows have been completely renovated in line with the latest energy standards.
  • The roof superstructures were removed to create space for green roofs and photovoltaic systems.
  • New stairwells and elevator systems ensure barrier-free access.
  • The building services are state of the art.

The roofs of components A, C and D will also have roof terraces, and the entire project will be certified according to the BNB “Silver” standard – the official sustainability assessment system of the federal government.

Another highlight: in future, energy will be supplied by an innovative, cold local heating network operated by Berliner Stadtwerke, which will provide heating and cooling by using wastewater heat. This system will be the largest of its kind in Berlin and will enable annual CO₂ savings of around 446 tons in the existing building alone.

The result is not only a functional administrative location, but also a future-oriented, climate-friendly property that actively supports the Berlin sponge city concept and sets standards for sustainable construction in the public sector.
