From 2025, a variety of publicly accessible open spaces will be created around the Haus der Statistik: places for meetings, cultural activities, games and sport. The basis for this is the 2023 workshop process for open space design. The areas will be activated in a low-threshold, inclusive and collaborative way – with the aim of testing long-term redesigns.
The design of the open spaces around the Haus der Statistik is a central component of cooperative neighborhood development. The aim is to create social meeting places, cultural offerings and exercise areas that are publicly accessible, inclusive and lively.
Since 2023, a workshop process for temporary open space design has been preparing the transformation of the large sealed areas in front of the Haus der Statistik and the neighboring Haus des Reisens. In close cooperation with the urban community, planning teams and the administration, the workshop has worked out how the temporarily activated areas can be gradually and jointly redesigned from 2025.
In this process, ZUsammenKUNFT Berlin eG is developing and supporting temporary open space formats that make the site accessible in a low-threshold, communicative and experimental way. The aim is to create usable transitional solutions – from seating and play areas to urban gardens and places for spontaneous events, cultural formats and neighborly exchange.
In the long term, this will create a new green urban space in the center of Berlin that not only fulfills ecological functions, but is also intended as a social infrastructure – open to many, made for all.
