Town hall of the future

The “Town Hall of the Future” is being built on the northern part of the site – a new place for local democracy, citizen services and social exchange. The building will comprise around 26,000 m² of floor space and combines modern administration with open, public uses. The aim is to create a transparent, accessible and sustainable administration for Mitte.

The “Town Hall of the Future” on the site of the Haus der Statistik is intended to be much more than a traditional administrative building. It will be a place for open dialog, citizen-oriented services and local democracy – visible, accessible and versatile.

The plan is for a sustainable, energy-efficient and climate-friendly building that is characterized by environmentally friendly technology, resource-conserving building management and social architecture. With its open design, it is intended to create low-threshold access and be inviting for all people in the neighborhood and district.

In addition to meeting the growing demand for space for specialist offices and administrative departments, the town hall also offers rooms for social interaction: a hall for public use, meeting and conference rooms, meeting areas and facilities such as a canteen, café, library and gallery – some with an accessible roof terrace.

Planned use at a glance:
– approx. 20,000 m² of office space for ten specialist offices and central departments of the Mitte district authority
– approx. 800 m² of combinable hall, rooms for political committees, dialogue formats and meetings
– approx. 3,000 m² of public usable space for gastronomy, education, culture and neighborhood
– underground mobility hub for contemporary development and traffic reduction

The “Town Hall of the Future” will create a new, lively point of reference in the neighborhood – as a place of proximity, transparency and participation that rethinks administration and is visibly anchored in the everyday life of urban society.
