Code of Conduct

Together – Respectful – Diverse

At the Haus der Statistik, we do not tolerate any form of racism, sexism, ableism, anti-Semitism, queer and trans hostility or any other discriminatory, violent behavior. All visitors to and participants in our events undertake to comply with this Code of Conduct. In the event of violations of our Code of Conduct, we reserve the right to exclude people from events.

Creating safer spaces

Our events at the Haus der Statistik should be safe and welcoming spaces for all people. We want to use resources to create more accessible and discrimination-sensitive spaces and support formats that promote these issues. Our spaces and events should be places where we meet as equals.

Strengthening those affected

We take experiences of discrimination and violence seriously and stand in solidarity with those affected. We focus on their perspectives and needs. We want to create structures that enable those affected to feel safe and continue to participate in our events.

Reflecting on power and privilege

We are all part of social power relations and have different privileges. We want to encourage people to critically question their own position: Whose voices are heard? Which perspectives are missing? We see constructive criticism as an opportunity to learn together. We also want all events to be sensitive to experiences of discrimination. If you encounter someone with constructive criticism, try to listen first. We all make mistakes. Our aim is to learn from each other.

Sharing space – sharing time

There are many opportunities to get involved or be active at the Haus der Statistik. All participants are encouraged to take part in discussion groups at our events. Please always be mindful of how much speaking time and space you take up - both physically and in conversations. If you have already contributed a lot, make room for other voices. Don't speak for others or about others, but with them. We want to make the diversity of experiences and perspectives in our space visible and audible.

Living gender diversity

Gender identities are diverse and go far beyond binary categories. We should not draw conclusions about another person's gender identity based on their appearance. Gender identities are diverse and go far beyond the categories of “man” and “woman”. Let's respectfully ask for names and pronouns (she/her, he/him, they/them, etc.) when talking to other people. In this way, we avoid referring to people incorrectly, which can be hurtful.

Thinking about (in)visible barriers

Many barriers are not directly visible to everyone. For us, accessibility means considering different needs, limitations and realities of life from the outset. The entire Haus der Statistik Quartier is currently undergoing renovation, but we are working on making our events as accessible as possible. If you recognize barriers, need support or have suggestions for improvement, please feel free to contact the events team or the Haus der Statistik team.

Contact & complaints

If you have any questions, suggestions or complaints about events, you can first contact the event organizer of the event you are attending. In other cases, you can also contact the Haus der Statistik team at werkstatt@hausderstatistik.org

Working together for solidarity

This Code of Conduct depends on everyone's commitment. We invite everyone to actively contribute to respectful and supportive cooperation at the Haus der Statistik. Together, we create spaces in which everyone can feel welcome and safe.
