Planning at the Haus der Statistik is more than a classic urban development process - it is a learning, cooperative and public process in which urban society, administration and the planning community work together continuously.
The Haus der Statistik workshop is at the heart of this participation: as a contact point, venue and platform for exchange, information and participation, it has been offering space for regular public events, open consultation hours, expert discussions, exhibitions, planning sessions and neighborhood meetings since 2018. Here, interested parties were able to contribute their perspectives at an early stage, ask questions and find out about the next steps.
Pioneer uses in particular play a central role: they make the neighborhood usable even before the actual start of construction and create concrete spaces in which needs, ideas and social infrastructures can be tested. What forms of coexistence does the neighborhood need? How can the planned 290 affordable apartments be linked to the neighborhood in a meaningful way?
Through this gradual activation of the site, new places, rules and everyday routines of coexistence can be jointly designed. Participation does not end at the property boundary - it interlinks district perspectives, living realities and future uses, and as a learning process, neighborhood planning is constantly evolving. In close connection with the Haus der Statistik workshop, long-term usage clusters and transparent organizational and allocation structures are created.
