Sustainability

Sustainability is a central leitmotif in the development of the Haus der Statistik district – ecologically, socially and in terms of urban planning.

The development plan procedure, based on the jointly developed urban development concept, aims to ensure a high quality of open space despite complex requirements for development and use. New mobility solutions and well thought-out development concepts are intended to relieve the adjacent neighborhoods of additional traffic.

The district is also breaking new ground in terms of energy: Berliner Stadtwerke is building Berlin's largest wastewater heating system to date in a gravity sewer. The system is supplemented by photovoltaic systems on the roofs of the existing and new buildings, which generate electricity locally and further improve the energy balance.
