die akademie der zusammenkunft ist ein ort des austauschs darüber, wie stadt selber machen – mithin raumproduktion – verstanden werden kann und dabei fachdiskurs und in  gesellschaftliche praxis verbunden werden. aus dieser perspektive stellt sich die frage nach der ausbildung der zukünftigen raumexperten / der architekturausbildung grundsätzlich neu. markus bader hat harriet harriss eingeladen dazu ihre thesen vorzustellen, anschliessend diskussion.

Ongoing concern for the duration, affordability and relevance of architectural education in the UK and across Europe has encouraged a sense of collective openness towards exploring other models of professional education delivery. There’s never been a better time to be thoughtfully innovative and take the initiative. Harriet Harriss‘ lecture will consider the future of architectural education, placing it within its unique historic tradition and raising fundamental questions such as who should be teaching architecture? Where should it be situated and should it be viewed as an interdisciplinary, rather than silo-based subject?

Bio
Dr Harriet Harriss is an architect and author and leads the Architecture and Interior Design MPhil/PhD programmes at the Royal College of Art in London. Her most recent publications: Radical Pedagogies: Architecture & the British Tradition (2015) and A Gendered Profession (2016) assert the need for widening participation in architecture, as a means to ensure the profession remains as diverse as the society it seeks to serve.
