19 Uhr — Artist Talk: Max Dax und Tod Seelie

Der Publizist und Journalist Max Dax im Gespräch mit dem Fotografen Tod Seelie über die Entstehung und die abenteuerlichen Reisen der „Swimming Cities“.
Das Gespräch findet auf Englisch statt.

20 Uhr — Konzert: Oddlab präsentiert: Keller & Solter „Atlantis is rising“

Keller und Solter interpretieren die Vision des sabrosischen Komponistens Immanuel Stockelborn über den Wiederaufstieg eines neuen Atlantis.
Basierend auf fragmentarischen Aufzeichnungen Stockelborns versuchen sich Keller und Solter dem Werk von einer aktuellen Perspektive aus musikalisch anzunähern. Eine musikalische Performance mit Wassergeräuschen als Ausgangsmaterial.

The conversation will be held in English.

8 p.m. — Concert: Oddlab presents: Keller & Solter “Atlantis is rising”

Keller and Solter interpret Sabronian composer Immanuel Stockelborn’s vision about the rise of a new Atlantis. Based on fragmentary notes made by Stockelborn, Keller and Solter attempt to approach the work from a contemporary perspective. A musical performance using water sounds as the starting point.

Exhibition

Opening of the “Islands of Utopia” exhibition and world première of musuku – Museum der Subkulturen.

The exhibition – one of the pioneer projects being held in the Haus der Statistik on Alexanderplatz – looks at the subcultures and communities venturing onto the water in search of new freedoms. Whereas the French philospher Henri Lefebvre famously demanded a right to the city, the new approach invites us to reclaim the water.

The exhibition includes photographs of the fantastical “Swimming Cities” initiated by the artist Swoon (photos: Tod Seele), a houseboat community which has evolved over several decades in San Francisco Bay (photos: Nicole Strasser), portraits from the Rummelsburger Bucht (photos: Saskia Uppenkamp) and the Flussbad Berlin initiative.

The “Synthetic Sea” acoustic installation by Chris Keller uses sensor-controlled “sound buoys” to enable the public to intervene and change the course of the performance.
